Scunny signed the combative midfielder Togwell at the very start of their play-off promotion campaign back in August 2008 - and he made his debut away to Walsall.

He has been a virtual ever-present for the Iron ever since, and has captained Scunthorpe on numerous ocassions.

Known for his tough-tacklin and no-nonsense style - Barnsley fans were disappointed to have lost the affable Cockney, but their loss was the Iron's gain.

Over the course of the last 3 seasons - he's been a big hit with the Iron: and indeed, picked up the club's official Player of the Season award.

Personal highlights for Sam are likely to include scoring a screamer away to home-club Crystal Palace during last season's 4-0 thumping of the South London club.

He has since gone to make 134 appearances for the Iron in all competitions - scoring 5 goals in the process.

He is likely to be a regular in League One next season, and it's hoped that he can hit the ground running once more.
