Wider interest in Iron target Fryatt
Fryatt, 28, is out of contract at the Tigers and had been targeted by the Iron as a marque signing ahead of this summer's return to League One.
He has held talks over a new deal at the KC Stadium, but first-team opportunities are likely to be limited with Shane Long and Nicika Jelavic leading the line.
Fryatt made 27 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring 10 times and starting in the FA Cup final loss to Arsenal.
Any offer the Iron make will not be able to compete financially, while the main temptation for Fryatt may be not having to move and the ambition sold to him by manager Russ Wilcox and chairman Peter Swann.
Wilcox certainly believes he is the kind of player the club should be aiming for, even though he admits his capture is unlikely.
Speaking to the Scunthorpe Telegraph, he said: 'The chairman wants to be really positive. Names are mentioned all the time and his (Fryatt's) was one that cropped up.
"There will be interest from Championship clubs, we know that. He went to Sheffield Wednesday on loan last season and did really well. I`m sure there will be interest from a dozen others.
"But it was the same with Paddy Madden. A dozen or so clubs from League One showed interest in him and we got him as a League Two club. Never say never, that's what I say.'
