Russ Delighted With Hayes Return

Russ Wilcox has spoken of his delight at being able to secure the return of striker Paul Hayes to Glanford Park.

As fans will know the striker has returned for his third spell at the club but owing to registration issues he won't be available until our second game in the New Year of 2014.

However, speaking to the Official Site the caretaker boss gave his thoughts about being able to wrap up the move.

'I'm delighted to have him on board, I think when a player comes available with that quality it would be silly for you not to look at it.'

Obviously there is history and he and former manager Brian Laws first brought him to the club as a fresh faced 19 year old, but he does still retain that hunger and desire and it's almost exactly what Wilcox ordered, especially given the experience he now carries being 30 years of age.

Wilcox also praises Hayes on that front because he did have other options, and Russ says specifically he could've had an easier life and probably earnt more had he moved to clubs like Crawley Town, Wycombe or Luton, but such is his desire to play regularly and work hard he knew this would be the best bet for him going forward, because he wants to be part of where Scunthorpe want to go again.

The gaffer also adds that fans should welcome him warmly because he's committed to the club despite the fact that his family will remain down south, but that's how much he wanted to return and enjoy what will hopefully be a third successful spell for him in our colours.
