Jennings Has Wilcox's Sympathy

Caretaker gaffer Russ Wilcox has said he has every sympathy in the world for freshly injured striker Connor Jennings.

As the club revealed the other day, Jennings has returned to Glanford Park early from his loan spell with Macclesfield Town after picking up a calf injury that was described as serious.

It was an unfortunate blow for the 22 year old who had been in fine form during his spell out, having just been voted Player of the Month for November and also topping the goal scoring charts having found the net 16 times in all competitions in what I believe may only be 18 appearances.

Although his initial loan spell was set to expire in January, the injury has meant that he will have missed an extra few games.

The issue started, as previously revealed, as a dead leg, but that soon escalated into an issue concerning bloody clots and he's unfortunately set for a long spell on the sidelines because of it.

Speaking to the Official Site more specifically about the injury, Wilcox had faith that the player would bounce back from this disappointment.

'He's still in hospital at the moment and he's not in a great way. It's a really tough blow for him. Obviously they've opened him up to relieve the pressure, so they've stitched the inside of the calf on Saturday and the outside on Sunday.'

Wilcox said that his form whilst out on loan had put him in his plans for the New Year when he returned and that will be a bitter pill for the player as he was aware of that, but in some ways hopefully it'll be the boost he needs knowing he can impress like that, so the trick will be in doing it when he's fit again and fully recovered.

Wilcox is sure he will as well.
