Manager Brian Laws has admitted that Niall Canavan may be missing from the first team until after the FA Cup clash against Grimsby Town.
The centre half obviously missed the game against Chesterfield and was replaced by Luke Waterfall after picking up an injury in the game against York.
Speaking to the Official Site about the 22 year old, the gaffer explained that although his response to the injury has been better than originally anticipated he knows he can't rush the decision on when to bring him back for fear of making things worse, so he could well miss the game depending on the advice he receives from the medical staff.
Laws says that he tried to train on Friday but he struggled, so has been given a little bit longer to rest so he can fully recover, but the length of that period of rest isn't yet known.
'If he has to miss the FA Cup match to ensure he is fit in the long term then that is what he will do.'
Laws does add it certainly shouldn't be anything long term as long as we don't rush him back too quickly because he doesn't have any swelling around his ankle, so things do look good, but it really is a case of not over stressing it too quickly and complicating matters.
In other injury news the gaffer also feels slightly confident that midfielder Matt Sparrow will return fit enough for a bit of training ahead of the Grimsby game as a scan has revealed he has a grade one injury that will keep him sidelined for about 10 days, so it's fingers crossed he'll be back to play at least a squad part in the FA Cup.
Deon Burton was also missing from Chesterfield after suffering back spasms on the morning of the match, and you'd hope a few days rest will see him right as well.
As for the substitution of Etienne Esajas in the second half of the game Laws confirmed that it was purely tactical and that he hadn't taken another knock as some had feared.
