Sodje Off His Sickbed to Inspire Iron

Akpo Sodje has been praised for his efforts in guiding Scunthorpe to victory over Portsmouth on Tuesday night.

Having been ill before the game the striker was almost taken off at half time, with Brian Laws admitting as much: 'Akpo has not been feeling very well and we considered leaving him off at half-time. But he wanted to go back on and so we dosed him up with tablets.'

Sodje, who came face to face with his brother Sam, has worked with Laws before so he knew what he was getting when he brought him in recently.

He came in for some stick for some misses in the Crewe defeat but took his chances against relegation rivals Portsmouth marking his home debut with a double: 'When we lost at Crewe on Saturday, Akpo missed three good chances, but he has scored both the chances that came his way and hopefully that will do his confidence a world of good because he is very much a confidence player.'
