Pompey chimes ring out

Portsmouth 2-1 Scunthorpe
29th Sept 2012
15:00
Fratton Park

Scunthorpe's unbeaten run was ended at Portsmouth on Saturday afternoon when a lead was lost and defeat suffered in the last minute.

Leon Clarke (6) scored for a fifth successive game to put Scunthorpe into an early lead but Pompey were soon level when Gábor Gyepes (12) followed up following an Izale McLeod miss.

Midway through the half The Iron lost keeper Sam Slocombe through injury with his replacement James Severn's first real test being a penalty taken by Brian Howard, which he turned away to see the sides go in level at the break.

With the sides looking destined to share the points Wes Thomas (89) struck on his debut in the last minute to give Pompey a 2-1 win and condemn Scunthorpe to their first defeat in five.
