'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Knill knows he's lucky

Alan Knill has revealed, as he told the official website, that he has sympathy for the recently sacked John Ward.

Scunthorpe beat Colchester last weekend with their manager, Ward, sacked following this 1-0 defeat.

Knill knows that but for a less "understanding board" this could have been him but he knows how football works: 'The two of us spoke before the game. We're all in the same boat. The pressure is always there if you're not winning.

'It goes with the job, but obviously when it actually happens it's disappointing. But what can you do? Somebody makes a decision and you get on with your life.

'You have to rely on a supportive board who know the circumstances to help you to work with the situation.

'They in turn then must trust the person in charge of the team to do that. I'm lucky here at Scunthorpe that we have that, but I know managers who are just fire-fighting every day and for some it gets too much.'

Yes, it could quite easily have been Knill that was out of work and not Ward however The Iron boss has at least guided Scunthorpe to a couple of victories this season, Ward hadn't managed a single league one win before he was sacked after eight games...
