Knill: Plenty of positives

Scunthorpe had a great chance to get their first win of the season at the weekend but they couldn't see off nine-man Sheffield United who equalised late on in the 1-1 draw.

The Iron went into the game fearing a fifth successive defeat but Leon Clarke's goal, and two then being sent off for the visitors, looked like it would be enough for victory until Sheffield United scored with their "once chance".

Alan Knill thought his side "played well" and is taking the positives from this though and wants his side to "build" on this: 'I thought we played well against Sheffield United but they have one chance and the ball finishes in the back of our net. That's the way it is going for us at the moment. But there are plenty of positives to take from this performance.

'After four successive defeats, we did not want a fifth. We have got our first point on the board and we can build from there.'

Clarke's impact, following his loan move from Charlton, was instant with the Scunthorpe boss looking forward to him having even more of an impact along with fellow arrival Karl Hawley: 'Leon is a good player. It has been a real struggle to find the strikers that we need, but Charlton have agreed to let him come here on loan.

'He and Karl Hawley, who we have also brought in, will make us stronger and competitive.'
