Matthews' second chance not taken
Scott Matthews' "second chance" with Scunthorpe has seen the teenager suffer the heartache of being released for a second time in just a few months.
Matthews was released at the end of last season but having had a rethink Alan Knill decided to offer the 18-year-old a chance to convince him he was worth a place in his squad and even handed him a squad number for the coming campaign.
Pre-season hasn't seen the youngster do enough to earn himself a contract with Knill thinking that the Irish youngsters he is looking to sign are of equal, if not better, quality than Matthews and as he wouldn't get into the first-team squad it was better that he moved on.
You have to feel for Matthews as he has now been told twice in a few months he wasn't good enough for The Iron, but the simple facts of the matter are that if this is the case it's better for everyone that he moved on for good this time.
