Cliff Byrne would have obviously been disappointed to have been released by Scunthorpe although he has been delighted by the response to his benefit match.
The Iron arranged this fixture with the long-serving defender released just a year shy of his testimonial season.
Nigel Adkins will manage a side from 2009 with Brian Laws, who signed Byrne in 2003, managing the other.
So far several high profile names have confirmed that they will play or at least shown an interest with Byrne, as he told BBC Radio Humberside, confirming this: 'I've spoken with Nigel Adkins and Brian Laws and they're both on board.
'Andy Keogh, Andy Dawson and Billy Sharp are all definites and I'm waiting to hear back from a few more.
'I'm trying to get hold of Gary Hooper but I gather he's keen so hopefully Celtic will let him play.
'I've had a terrific response from the lads and that's been brilliant. Hopefully it will make for a very good day.
'It'll be a good chance for fans to see past legends, some of their favourite players and familiar faces.'
The game between the league one promotion winning side of 2009 and an Iron select XI will be played on Saturday 29th July.
