Butler to miss season start

Scunthorpe beat Leeds 2-1 in a friendly at Glanford Park, but the win came at a cost with an injury to centre-back Andy Butler.

Butler dislocated a shoulder in the second-half of the game at Glanford Park, and is expected to be out for upto six weeks after requiring treatment at Scunthorpe General Hospital.

Goalkeeper Joe Murphy was also taken off during the game with a thigh strain, but it was a precautionary measure and he should face Premiership newcomers Sheffield United on Saturday.

The visitors, who were beaten in the Championship play-off final last season, took the lead just before the break through Robbie Blake.

Blake toe-poked the ball past the onrunning Josh Lillis, who had only come off the bench moments earlier to replace Murphy.

Matt Sparrow turned home the equaliser shortly afterwards, tapping home from Andy Keogh's cross, to ensure the score was level at the break.

Striker Billy Sharp headed home the winner from a corner early in the second half.

United are still unbeaten in their pre-season campaign, but the big talking point from the game will be the injury to Butler.

Big loss, as I reckon him and Fozzie could be the making of our defence this season.
