Iron announced Retained List

It might have come a couple of days late, but it's finally been published by the club. And to be honest, there aren't many surprises in there.

The Iron have published their 19-strong list of players who will still be under contract with the club for the coming 2011/12 League One season.

And there are no real surprises in the mix, either positive or negative ones - with the only one being the whole saga surrounding Eddie Nolan remaining at Glanford Park.

Despite previous beliefs surrounding him being out of contract, the club have only just announced that within a week of signing the original 6 month deal in January, he then went on to sign a 2nd - 18th month deal with the Iron.

And the only other player who was out of contract to remain with the Iron is keeper Sam Slocombe.

The keeper, signed from local team Bottesford Town - was out of contract in the summer, but in his contract remained an option in the club's favour.

And with the season ahead in League One, Iron manager Alan Knill has decided to exercise this option and ensure that Slocombe will remain on Scunthorpe's books for another 12 months at least.

The Iron's full list of retained players contains 19 squad players - and the Iron's entire roster is not expected to be much larger than that come the beginning of the season.

However, there are departures from Glanford Park expected - even from within this list - with Rob Jones chief amongst them.

But nonetheless, here is the list in full:

Goalkeepers:

Joshua Lillis & Sam Slocombe

Defenders:

Andrew Wright, Cliff Byrne, Andy Hughes, Eddie Nolan, Rob Jones, Niall Canavan, Paul Reid, Michael Nelson, Michael Raynes.

Midfielders:

Garry Thompson, Mark Duffy, Sam Togwell, Michael Collins, Michael O'Connor

Strikers:

Bobby Grant, Chris Dagnall, Matt Godden,

The Iron have also given 4 youth team players professional deals for the coming 2011/12 season. They are:

Jake Turner (Goalkeeper)
Ashley Palmer (Centre-half)
Jordan Thewlis (Attacking Midfielder/Striker)
Aron Wint (Winger/Striker)
